• Northwest University Kano NWU Commence Medicine Program.

The Northwest University,  has concluded plans to start offering Medicine program from the 2017/2018 academic session.

According to the chairman Council Committee for the establishment of Teaching Hospital and Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Musa KanoBorodo, the MBBS program will take off from the university campus.

Prof. Borodo who dropped the hint while submitting the report of the committee to the Governing Council of the university at the council chamber of the university, said they strongly believed that in the light of what was available on ground, it should be possible for the university to start the program beginning from 2017/2018 session provided that the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) had given the approval.

“If the Governing Council of the university approves the report, the university should appoint the Dean of the faculty and write to relevant regulatory agencies to seek their approval to commence the program,” he stated.

According to him, ultimately all efforts should be made to make Kwanar Dawaki as the teaching hospital because of its ample opportunity to serve as the teaching hospital as well as where the students will be taught.

“The university should be able to commence the program although there are few things to put in place. We feel it’s possible to procure and put these things in place and start … you know, it takes six to seven years to finish a medical school.

“At every stage provided the university is ready, the NUC and Medical and Dental Council will give approval.”
