• The Abia State University (ABSU) Senate, at its 215th Regular meeting, has approved the establishment of Emeritus Professorship in the University.

    This is an honour the University may confer on her deserving Professors who must have retired from the services of the University at an age not earlier than 70 years.

    In his submission during the meeting, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the establish of Emeritus Professorship and former Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ogwo E. Ogwo disclosed other criteria for the qualification to include:

    • Must have normally served as a Professor for at least 15 years, 10 years of which must have been in Abia State University.
    • Must have Presented an Inaugural Lecture
    • Must have rendered distinguished academic service to the University, attested through proven extensive research and publications, during his/her period of Professorship in the University, among others.
    • Effective teaching evaluated over the years.
    • Manifest interest in Postgraduate work and supervision of students.
    • Must have demonstrated administrative leadership role while in the service of the University.
    • May be a recipient of National and /or International academic awards and honours.

    In His remarks, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Uche Ikonne, thanked the Chairman and members of the committee for a job well done, stating that the University will continue to produce high quality Professors who can compete any where in the world.
